Pope Francis apologized for slapping the hand of a woman who grabbed him during New Year’s Eve event in St. Peter’s Square.
In his new year address at St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday, Francis confessed to losing his patience with the woman while he was strolling in the square on Tuesday night to admire the Vatican’s Nativity scene.
Francis reacted angrily when the woman held on his hand and in return slapped her hand because she wouldn’t let him go.
“So many times we lose patience. Me, too”, Pope Francis said.
He also added: “I say ‘excuse me’ for the bad example.”
