In the music industry you are expected to see “slay mamas” with enhanced butts, fake hairstyles and eyelashes.
Teni, The Entertainer, a rising Nigerian based singer and rapper defied the odds with her tomboy fashion style.
Despite the pressure that the music industry has towards women, she emerged as one of the most promising singer-songwriter coming from Africa.
She has said during an interview with Wazobia Max:
“Oh you have to wear this, you have to lose weight. As long as I’m healthy. I go for my check-up. This is who I am . I’m happy. I’m very happy with who I am.”
Her latest music project “Case” prompted the daughter of oil tycoon billionaire Otedola, DJ Cuppy to tweet about the song.
Her story also reminds of the early years when American singer Missy Elliot began her music career.
She was also faced with the same problem due to her physical characteristics but became one of the top selling African-American rapper in the 90’s.
It all comes down to knowing who you are and be confident in your own skin after all.
