In recent times, the name of the People Democratic Party Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has dominated the media in Nigeria. In October 2018, politician and business tycoon Atiku came out victorious in the PDP primary election receiving the highest votes which made him the flag bearer of the party.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s first entrance into the political arena was when he  sworn in as Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, between 1999-2007 under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as the President.

Mr. Atiku endeavoured several times to get back into government but failed during those times to clinch a major party. The former commander in chief of Nigeria, Chief Obasanjo, commented that Atiku will not become president in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Even in his book entitled “My Watch” he wrote severally about the attitudes of Atiku.

Chief Obasanjo dominates the People Democratic Party (PDP), which lead Atiku to switch allegiance into the All Progress Congress in 2014, to contest for the presidential primary election.

There was also an outburst between former Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan who was at that time the People Democratic Party aspirant in the 2015 General Election. Chief Obasanjo allegedly switched his allegiance to the All People Congress, to support its candidate and to see Goodluck Jonathan removed from office.

In all this, Muhammad Buhari suddenly gained popularity after winning the APC Primary defeating Atiku and other aspirants. The results declared Muhammad Buhari winner of Nigeria elections in 2015.

With tensions arising, Olusegun Obasanjo fell out with President Buhari and has promised to help in removing him to make Nigeria great again.

The PDP party received the decamping of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and The Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Governors and with Large numbers of Senators, House of representatives members across to the country.

Alhaji Atiku came out victorious in its primary election which was keenly contested by 14 candidates, within the party. Immediately, He was given the flag of the PDP as its Presidential Candidate. He also reached out to aggrieved members to work in achieving common goals.

A team of reconciliation was also set up by the party which consists of religious leaders notably Bishop David Oyedepo, Shiekh Guma and other dignitaries. The reconciliation was done between him and his former principal, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and he publicly endorsed him as the next president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

When the political campaign began in December2018, the opposition parties resurfaced facts that Atiku was involved in a money laundering enquiry which banned him to travel to the United States of America while he was the vice president of Nigeria.

Alhaji Atiku employed President of America Lobbyist Brian Billard, as the election strategist. He was reportedly paid the sum of £850k, Four Hundred Million Naira.

Alhaji Atiku and his Vice-Presidential Aspirant, Mr. Peter Obi have promised to make Nigeria great again after publishing their 6-year manifesto.

On Thursday, Alhaji Atiku announced on social media that he arrived in the United States to attend meetings with his foreign partners.

The big question now is, what will the Opposition use against Atiku again after he has proven them wrong that he wasn’t banned entry in America?

Atiku has proven that he can run the nation with his recent accomplishment, will this strategic move contribute to his success at the poll?

I guess this question above will be left for the voters to decide at the February 16 Presidential Election Poll.

Meanwhile, The APC Candidate, Buhari has been going around with his campaign, even though signs of old age and possible suffering dementia.
